she sent some pictures of family. All but Benny and Cindy, altho she was in one picture but Ricky was standing in front of Cindy, hiding her from her Grand Dad Conner sitting in big rocker holding paint and Ricky. at first glance thought was Cindy and Benny Eugene. Paul resembles Cindy so much in this picture and Ricky, Benny Eugene there one of Nancy holding little Paul on her lap Nancy laughing at something. There one of little Paul in his horse rocker asleep it cute as can be also where he is on his all fours looking at a toy cow got for Christmas, another one where Paul down on floor with toy train Ricky walking up to him looking at it. One with Benny Eugene sitting by Christmas tree Paul on floor Ricky on side of him Cindy in back.

was around 6:45 before we started to Payless Drug, so could pick up my tablet. Dot and Dick waited for me out side I found something to cover Helens tray she uses in kitchen to set dishes on only cost me 414, taken over 2 hour before I got my tablet, but had to be sure could git them today. Dick cane in to Oakland old road was real pretty hills green seem we were way out in Country some times then we winded up and around then down finally came in Oakland Head lights were on by then but wasnt real dark when came to Helen place Dot and Dick stayed a while
Claude came down he talked to Dick a while.
When they left Helen ask if we wanted some cake she broght back from picnic Sat. evening made it Fri. night so we had some. good but kind of dry of course I opened can peaches and eat some with my cake Helen was real pleased over the shoes I brought back for her to use. I unpacked things now must go to bed been a wonderful Mothers Day enjoyed visit with Dot Dick and Charles also the cat and her kitten.

Dottee called 2:30 pm today wanted me to come out over weekend for mothers day, so when Helen came home I told her as she will be gone tomorrow with a group from school to San Francisco, so Helen was pleased I could spend the day with Dot, Dick and Charles.
I went down the Hill on Grand Ave shopping at Safeway store when got back rested a while then put peas in my lamb stew brought up cloth ironed my dress. Helen Brought Claude, shorts now have to go. after bought some sugar also choc. As used nearly all of Helen up making cakes other kind making candy.

Helen fixed her chicken for there picnic Sat. made her own potato salad then made a choc. Cake. I fixed the icing also cleaned up the mess in kitchen which helped a lot then came up stairs. pack Helen little case to take with me out to Dots set my alarm clock for 6 am.

I got up early as was riding over with Claude as he went to work. Helen was taking the car so she dropped me off to buy my ticket to Concord was 754 one way Helen had to go so I waited for Bus was 9:15 or later when Concord Bus came had nice trip out. Called Dorothy she came over and picked me up its only 6 blocks some long some short but I didnt know the way for sure but now can come out easy on bus.
I saw the baby kittens and Boots there Mother also
She was so happy to see me.
I opened up my trunk got out my sun dresses half slips some shoes wish to take with me got some caned fruit.
We had lunch then Dick and Dot went shopping Charles helped them bring in Groc. We had dinner Mrs Wilson came over Dot fixed her hair after Dick and Dot went next door to see the new baby gave a gift to the little fellow. Dot fixed dinner we were just sitting down when Mrs Wilson came in she waited for Dot until they returned I should of washed up the dishes but didn’t.
Sunday May 14/61
woke up was almost 6 am didnt hear any one up so went back to sleep. Was nearly 8 am when woke again so got up and dressed as thought Dick and Dot was going to early Church 9:30 am but they wasnt ready in time we had breakfast set and talked until was almost 10:30 so got a move on. Charles stayed home. Dick couldnt find parking place near the Church so let Dot and I out we waited in the lobby for Dick then found a place by Mr and Mrs Wilson
I really believe thay have a good pastor at least he spoke like he was trying to get the people to wake up and have family prayer and Bible Study in the home.
The choir sang Faith of our Mothers, was real lovely and Hymn what a friend we have in Jesus. I have always loved that song, the Church was full, the oldest Mother came up front. She was 90 a mother had 9 of her family with her 3 girls one little baby. Then the mothers that had been a member of the Church the longest was 49 years 1912 became a member after we came home dishes sister in law came Charles Mrs Wilson and I was watching T.V. Dick said Oh thanks for doing the dishes. I felt so ashamed.

After Mrs Wilson left me watch TV again then I taken a bath fixed my hair Dot did the back for me. Watch T.V. again. Then to bed, read some guess could call it a day.

Fri. April 28th (61) dont know what I did same old things I guess do ever day dishes and so on.
Sat. April 29th Seem that Helen had a lot of Studying to do, everthing was same thou I did go down the street and Shopped. Milk cans are all you can buy for large cans for 104 I had bought 4 cans when Helen went with me. This day bough 4 rolls of toilet tissue for 254
April 30th/61 Sunday I stayed home Read and lissened to My Radio Helen and Claude drove to Church as usual. She wasnt feeling so good and had to work. Wasnt home until 8 pm Helen did lot of studing on her school work

May 1/61 Monday did some laundry GG called up I talked to her. Well Floyd called -no that was Tue May 2nd this is May 3rd GG called again Floyd came over to see me he was going to see about mother. GG wanted to stay but not move a way. Which couldnt blame her she been like her mother ever since she was married move all over ever place now back here in Oakland hope she can stay

Claude day home he slep kind of late. Then worked in the yard. After Helen came or he went after they went to see the children. Only harry was there to see them he seem better this trip to visit them. Helen and I walked down the St. did some shopping no that’s right I went alone.
Fri. May 5/61 I was out cleaning up the frunt porch and steps and side Also back was 1 hour doing front and side got 4 Boxes of leaves and trash from back and front, Helen said looked good when she came home
I was so dirty had to go take a bath after working out side felt good thou
Sat. May 6/61 was raining Helen taken Claude to work had car fixed then came home I thought she was Asleep on account was so quiet and raining so was real surprised when Helen Came up stairs I was in bath room never looked in her Room to see if she was asleep she put note on my door but I didnt see it or I would of been dressed when she came home as she had the car we drover over to see Cathrine first time we had been to see 5 her since Frank passed away. Her kitchen looks nice and clean also cherreful now. George, Ruths Husband was goin up Home over the weekend, Helen went to see her girl friend after dropping me off at Catherines place. We had a nice visit she was reading some old letters and Christmas Cards some had for years. Good day for it raining didnt Care to be out side Bunny Came in Said Mr. Schnabel said the Reference Bible was best he know of for study. I was happy to know that as I had told Bunny to ask him she did that pleased me as I had told her it was good Bible for one to study the Bible. Cathrene showed me the Bible story book. Ruth let her have it real good would like to have one my self.
Helen came by picked me up we came on home she had her lamb roast cooking while away so I put on rice and veg. Fix coffee. After dinner we walked over the Hill to store did some shopping started to sprinkel rain as we came home.

Claude and Helen went to Church earlier today as they was driving up to see Sunny at Hanna.
I wrote Ollie Geneva Also sent Cards pencil to Cindy and Linda, Also Texas friends Holmes Dyshin and Bob have knew ever since 1952 than friends of Binny and Nancy. I went down to mail Box at end of Boulevard Way to mail letters and Cards cleaned up dishes after lunch Helen and Claude got home after 6 pm, Helen came bed room said Sunny was playing base ball so didnt get to visit much with him. Claude was starved so she went to fix dinner I must stop writing as getting kind of dark. I didnt mind beeing here alone because I had faith Claude and Helen would be Home some time to day. What a wonderful feeling.

I thought of Johnny remembered 1955 when I was at the Gallmans visiting Johnny taken Ruby on a belated Honeymoon trip down in Fl thay left May 7th around 11 and I stayed with the 3 children thay returned late Fri. night. I told Johnny he would never have another Birthday like that one which was on Mothers Day but thats not what I was talking about Johnny was 40 years old May 8th 1955 so of course hed never have another 40th Birthday but he never did catch on what I meant. Though well Rubys mother going back to Calif. and she wont be around there to watch after the children which was so true. And Ruby or Johnny hadnt any thing to worrie about when I was with the children so on mon. May 8th/61 I couldnt help but remember Johnnys 40th Birthday told Helen when she came home from work that I have sent out letter and card to Johnny hope he rec. it on his Birthday O.K.

phone in Order to Wards in Oakland. Hoping would be able to git ever thing I ordered and like them; did some laundry had lunch, filed Helens pillow ironed some things.

Watched T.V. read so on Helen came home early from work on Tu. And Thur. was soon gon Did git a letter from Geneva she planning to take her trip up north so I have to git things ready so can go with her Jess coming up to Oakland with her 10th Arnie her I guess then Jess goes back to L.A. then on East.

GG called talked to me also Floyd thay said my prayers in there behalf helped. I said I prayed God did the work in Answering.
GG had a cold didnt not recognize her voice at first she hadnt call me for over a week I was wondering what was rong. Floyd got nother job went to work, belive was from 4 pm to 12 midnight welding some place Floyd was so happy when hes not working he goes almost nuts does some of the Darndest things so I prya hes not wont of a job long at a time

Thur. 11/61 Clauds Day off from work.. Helen home early on Thur. Claude goes often in the car which help a lot. To day she drove out to see Linda in Livermore foster home. was such a Beautiful drive we both enjoyed it so very much even with Helen tired from being in School to day wasnt anyone home when we got out where Linda stays but thay drove up just as Helen and I got out of the Car. I snaped picture of Helen and Linda then Helen taken one of Linda and I in back yard wind was blowing pretty strong hope we look ok. I bought Box of git well card from Linda 21 Beautiful card for $1.00 with scripture thats on them
Linda seem Happy this time she going finish her school Also try git a job this summer I was so pleased to hear that thank God for answering prayers. Linda looked so cute she seem thiner this time than before when we was out to see her, had on green jumpers white blouse long sleves. She letting her hair grow out again she lookes better with it short. then we left Livermore 5;pm got home 5 to 6 pm Claude and Helen was watchin tv thay said. I came up stairs changed dress hose shoes slip put on every day dress lay down on bed put my feet up and finished reading.
 A story in The Saturday Evening Post about how the public schools died in prince Edward County Va thay have segregated schools for 200 years, in Prince Edwards County its hard for them to change its really shocking whats going on here in Our own United States of America in the South. Helens dinner smelt so good I had to go down and fix mine had Okra and tomatoes with onion cut up in it was real good also nice big meat patty. also cup of my Dandilion Coffee after did up dishes Eat my pumpkin custard was pretty good. Has been a pretty full day.

Did a little laundry. Rec. lovely Mother Day card from Paul. Helen went to school earler she wanted to type.
I had Rec. card my Order was in At Wards so Helen taken me over was gone about an hour we was pleased over that I should of tryed on my Dresses as have to send one back its to big for me others have to be hemed up, even the hose are large I guess I think I am really as large a Grandmother. did the Dishes up when we came back and Helen studied.

I really was busy to day got a surprise when learned my Sun back dresses was all so baggy on me couldnt use them at all. So sending them to Ruby.. Hope she can use them ok.
Have nearly all the things ready have to clean the shoes then pack things to send out bought large book of 44 stamps for Ruby to day will put in package.
Went down St. to post office Helen needed stamps also and I bough 16 for my self. Stayed at 5 and 104 store bought garter grip, pins thread for Ruby to fix dress sending her. also bought some things for my self.

Believe GG called me on phone to day I was fixing lunch for my self got card from Ollie she wrote had been down to Myrtles over weekend was up and around and Myrtle heart Bad but she wants to go back to work. Charlie had to retire on account of His Health. Ollie had heard from Hazel she wanted them to come down visit Ollie wrote she had lost some wight guess could were some of her dresses now that about all happened Wed. same thing I do dishes so on. Claude sister Dorothy came over with her new Husband. They on there honeymoon.

After Helen brought up some mail for me she left for school when she came home after lunch she drove over to Wards I had to return my Sun back dress was so large. Helen bought par. White shoes real cute one also good for kitchen Co. class she’s taking. and I bought a house coat We were gone so long Claude didnt know what happened to us.

Helen brought letter up from Ruby but Helen was in such a hurry she couldnt wait to see what Ruby wrote I washed out few thing also I ironed some while I was waiting to do the dishes I made a Choc. Cake used Helen Old recipe. first time ever made cak with ice milk wonder how it will come out looked good didnt ice it then Helen cant eat much icing. Another day we woke up to the sound of thunder and rain this am reminded me of Louisiana or Texas. Got letter from Viola, Geneva oldest daughter.

After lunch I went down St. needed thread so could fix my new dress him them up to long for me. Also needed Elastic tape and long envelopes. Helen walked on down with me as she need a book from Library. I went in 5 and 104 store ___ I got thrugh shopping before Helen came from Library we were to meet in little park this side of Shopping center. I stopped bought strawberries Ice milk also Bottle __. Went on to park set on Banch, wated for Helen was goin on home when I saw her coming cross St. when she came up to where I was she rested a while showed me the book she got at the Library. Went came on home and cut on cake. Had Ice milk with it Boy was that cake good. So moist and nice. Hope I remember how I made it well was 2 cake really baked them in Helen round mold pan. Helen had a lot of studying to do she alway has after dinner come up fixed my hair went to bed read a while before going to sleep

Wake up early so could hear Dr. Dettaan Radio Bible Class also Dr. Barnhouse Bible Study Hour like them both so very much Helen and Claude went to Church 12 noon Mass. Then came home had lunch and drove up where Sunny is staying they had open house. Ask me to go with them but I stayed home wrote some letters to Ruby also sent 974 Book of Stamp. One letter to Geneva, Mrs Sibily letter, met in 1953 at Rubys also each time I was at Rubys place she Melinda Grandmother on her mothers side also wrote about my visit. have it changed.

Claude even like the cake I made that is really something when he likes cake. Helen takes Sunny up a peace of cake. He liked it also.
Well I sure enjoyed that choc cake with the ice milk we cleaned the cakes up all but small peace Sunday been here at Helen and Claudes 2 month all ready how time flys. Helen said Sunny was fine his Aunt Marin had just left from visiting with Sunny.

Was kind of chilly this AM has been lately. Helen left early. I hadnt got up to stay yet when she left. Some times I have my Bible study in bed. Did this AM
After my bible study dressed went down stairs did a little laundry, fixed my lunch had strawberries and Ice milk after eggs toast my Health Coffee drink cleaned up dishes straightened up some then fixed my new blue plaid dress. Pressed it its all ready to wear now any time also fixed Lavender and White one and old house coat needed something fixed a dish towel for Helen.

fixed my dresses 3 of them needed shorting. got a letter from Geneva she was going to see the Dr. Mon. 2 pm day she wrote letter to me lookes like she figuring on going up in Canada way she write and go clear on up to Viola which is better cause she hasnt gotten her Blood Sugar down yet. than hadnt been down to Myrtle and George yet. no way going cost to much on train cant use the passes on Santa Fe Rail Road.

Cut out my house coat sewed it up. Helen was surprised I got that much done on it made Lemon Cake turned out real good I eat some with my strawberrys
Helen had some when she came in from school. She put peaches on her cake.
Dottee called up talked to me said her Dr. said she needed this operation sooner the better.
Charles is up at Mrs. Staleys place Dick and Dot taken him up he thinks may find work up there the girld and Mrs. Staley just drove up when Dod Dick and Charles arrived that was Sunday
The girls mother was there Lydia, and Lilly Mae are looking for a job going live together as the step Dad left. So Lydia has to go to work I guess.
Dot said Wilson was asking $18,000 for this place. I thought would be at least $25,000 This is a lovely place Beautiful yard, at least Mr. Wilson has keep it up real nice but to much for him hes not young any more.

Claudes day off work he and Helen went to see the Children this after noon then taken Sandra a wedding gift, as we were all going to her wedding 7:pm to night
So I was all ready and had dinner ready but dishing it up when Helen and Claude came home first thing Helen said was Mother dont take your hair down, we are not going any place tonight, but 7:am tomorrow is the wedding I called Cathren ask if she wanted to go to a wedding
Cathrine said what 7:am but when I told her why and what Helen had learned Cathrene said yes it was in Alameda she could go, so Helen and I have to get up real early so can get Bus over to Cathrine then we will all 3 go to the Church. So now I must go to bed didnt do much mended some things, no mail for me to day.
Thank God for his loving care over us to day and we can lay down not be afraid.

Set my clock for 5 am but went off 4:30 am Helen and I went over to Cathrenes she taken her car and we all 3 went to Sandra Lee Watson Wedding to L Cpl. Murie F. Keely in SN.C. Wedding was at Saint Philip Neri Church Alameda Calif.
We were little late but was glad we went as no one came but Sandra step mother and step sister. Sandra look real lovely in her white dress Kuiely was in his uniform. Sandra Dad wouldnt come to her wedding she felt so badly some one was giving them a breakfast, which was nice.
Helen, Cathrine and I came on back to her place as Helen didnt have to go to school until 10:30 AM I looked at some pictures someone had sent Catherine years ago. Even had forgotten had sent them we had lunch then Ed wanted his mother go way in East Oakland pick him up some potato chips for his club, so Cathrene taken me with her then came back to Ward picked up my dress had ordered. I tried it on should of tried the 14 2 also but didnt do so. Helen ask why I didnt. but I didnt want keep Cathrene wating so long she was kind enough to take to Ward and then on home. Helen and I got Bus over to Alameda. Was a long day for both of us, got up so early guess was for Cathrene also. After I came home went down on Lake Shore Ave. shopping so was full day for me.

Helen was so tired out she went back to bed after Claude left for work. Got up once put some things in washer, when it stopped and she didnt go hang up laundry I thought she had gone out some place before I came down stairs so I hung up the wash. When she did come down said Mother did you hang up my laundry I said no they just jumped up on the line by there selves. I washed out a dress by hand. Helen called GG was talking to her also some girl at school called so while Helen was on phone I did up the Dresses or washed them up in Basement. Later in day went down street bought eggs celery carrots. When I came back was kind of tired althou stopped in little park set on bench for a while enjoyed the cool breez after dinner dishes was cleaned up Jello made I went up stair got ready for bed put up my hair and got in bed read a while before going to sleep.
May 28 Sunday/61
Heard my Radio program this AM one at 8 am to 8:30 am other came on later put on Radio near bed had it low so wouldnt disturb Helen they sleep in on Sunday go to Church for 12 noon mass. When they leave I take my bath dress get lunch, to day while was down stairs cleaning up kitchen fixed some dressing for dinner Helen who had a baby sitting job from 2 pm to 6:30 thought would be 5 pm when she taken job so called me ask if I would fix dinner so I did
Claude was eating when Helen came in from her job. When I came down stairs again to eat and do up dishes they both said dinner was real good thanks a lot for fixing it. I enjoyed the dressing ever so much myself. I made a pudding yesterday so had some to night with bannas cut up on it. Helen can eat this pudding is why I like to make it so many thing she cant eat with out suffering after eating them. This has been some day wrote Ollie letter mailed it must go to bed now.

Helen drove Claude to work then we went out to payless Drug store in Pill Hill. Was early so we drove over to Bobby place didnt seem be any one home came back parked in Dot old driveway walked back looked down on the back yard, guess Bobbys sister wasnt home either Was nice just to look at the old home place. saw Martha talked a little with her then drove back to drug store was open we went in I need some more tablet, so wouldnt run out. Then we drove out to Dots. we visited a while with dick, Charles and Dot, had lunch with them I brought home some fruit also other things My how Boots Kittens are growing Dot thinks they are her grandchildren she so proud of them its real cute way she loves them. Helen came home a different way was real interesting we saw some lovely homes beautiful flowers, after Helen came home we unloaded the car she called up the girl she baby sat for last year then Helen went to see her new baby its a boy She had 2 little girls so they are so pleased this one a boy so the girls glad to have a baby brother after dinner I fixed a lemon cake as Helen wanted to take Sunny some when they went up cake turned out fine so light.

Claude and Helen moved the bed into the little room so can use middle room when Sunny comes here next week, and seems to like this room okay look real cosey way he has it now.
Helen and Claude went up to see Sunny after Church, so I wrote some letters one to Nancy also Myrtle and George, one to Mrs. Landers, had my radio on heard some good speaker on Billy Graham was real good was so glad he back on the job, again he was layed up May 28th They said on Radio so when I had it on then when Helen and Claude came home I had dinner on for them Helen was glad as they were ready to eat told me Sonny coming home next Sunday.

I finished my house coat and cut out and almost finished a bag for my blanket in case need it on this trip up in Canada.
Dot called me said Dick, Charles and her all went to Fresno. Got a plane ticket to fly down to this Fri .night back Sun. night this is there honeymoon Dick said they stoped by GG Sunday when came back from Fresno Mason said he would love to go down with them but of course he couldnt.
Dot said she would like to take Mason and Debby some time no kidding. Dick want to ride to Fresno on the New train. Dot said that cost realy as much as the trip down to Fresno, but Dick wanted to do it this way Charles is going baby sit the dog and Cats while they are gone south over week end.

I went over town with Helen as she went to school we first went to City Hall 2 different places they sent us to County Court House then we were told write and get my birth certificate they would send it to me really thats all I needed to go up in Canada. Helen showed me where to get 18 Bus home as she went on to school from court house. I road Bus to shopping center on Lakeshore got off went to 5 and 104 store then to store stopped in little park a while then on home. Was getting ready to make some corn bread when Dot call I talked to her a while she had mailed a paper for me to fill out and wasnt sure I would understand about this paper so called.
Just got corn bread ready to put in pans when phone rang again was GG talked to her a while they both had tried to get me earlier but I was over in town then I finaly did get my bread in oven put on some cabbage to go with it.
believe was 3 pm when Helen came home I had Eaten my lunch of corn bread and cabbage was real good. I was up stairs getting ready to go down to Guy Drug Store after my pictures they turned out real good. Had some more put in get tomorrow. if I was to go pick them up I wrote a letter to County Clerk while Claude and Helen was eating dinner then Helen walked down on Lake Shore Ave with me to mail letter but was late so a man wanted one to go tonight
so he was kind enof to take mine to Main post office. Helen and I came on back to little park set on a bench a while and enjoyed the fresh air came home I did up the dishes Helen studied a while now we are all in bed another day gone where I wrote in bed to night

Was Daddys Birthday if he had lived would of been 69. A nice retiring age.
Helen taken me with her to school. She seen about geting my hair fixed at school. Helen showed me where to get the Bus out from the school she had to run was late to her class.
I stopped down on Lake Share Ave. did some shopping then on home didnt feel good at all O the price we pay to have our hair so it will curl.

Thur. June 8/61
went down to Guys Drug Store picked up some pictures had taken. Helen came home had lunch then Claude went git some glasses also to see his mother. we went on out to see Linda. I felt so tired and sleepy I was sick on way home, had to lay down in back seat on way Helen stopped and bought us a bottle of 7 up as her tummy was on the bum, also and she had to drive. Made good time. Linda was fine as could be.

Fri. June 9/61
went to school as Helen went we found a place could git what I wanted Birth Affidavit. Also, Identification card with my picture on it this place was on 13th St and mans name Doc Henderson said he had been same place since 1940, why I have waited so long to go up a place like this I dont know Helen went on to school I went over to meet Cathrine at Bank of America on corner of Webster and Haight Ave. in Alameda I got off on Santa Clara and
walked back to wait by bank Catharine came cross it and we went in the Bank. man fixed up $802.20 in $10.00 check fixed them in bank for me then Cathrere went to Luckys store did some shopping then picked up lady who had called a cab but she got so tired waiting taken Cathene upon riding home with her that ladys husband in a very bad shape but he came out helped his wife some getting the groc. Up in the house Cathrine went on home fixed some lunch.
then came on over to pick up my affidavit but wasnt small like I wanted so have to have it made again.
Cathren brought me home came up a little while I showed her my house coat and how fixed my dress also some pictures give her a dress. it up to her what she dose with it. New but no use I making it over. Glad some one can use it okay has been a busy week will be until we are on our way Geneva to be up Sunday early also jess coming up

Went over in town after calling up this fellow said could fix card for my bill fold. But when picked up card he had read didnt notice the city was wrong Oakland instead of Concord so called up he said bring it in he would fix it okay for me. Sure be glad when this is all over if wasnt going on a trip wouldnt be bad at all I wore my new green sun dress so can say had wore it okay like fine now made it smaller it was too large.
after got home was tired stopped carried bag of groc home from shopping center changed my dress shoes hose so on rested a while washed out some things hung up some clothes. Helen had run in washer. Made lemon cake then came up stair striped bed, cleaned toilet floor so on also bath room when finished had to rest again my feet was hurting me so bad. After dinner dishes was over made choc cake. Now have to bath and go to bed sure tired. Helen been studying she tired also.
