3/1/68 Tom got up 6:a.m. when ‘larm went off had his breakfast then walked over to John house new friend of Tom, got bus with him. Later in day lady called from Sutter Creek High School ask for Dorothy. I said she got married Feb. 22^nd and was down to her new home. Lady said she was Mrs. Roberts and wanted to know if Tom Dickson was supposed to check out of school today. I said yes, his Aunt wanted him to go to school at new address from March 4^th. Lady said okay, I just wanted to be sure. Will fix his paper and check him out he’s going around now and checking out in each room.

Mrs. Neva Forrest called said the phone was going be change today in her name. Then man from phone company called said same thing. I called Joan told her also she said tryed to get Dorothy but no answer. Joann said call her give this new phone no. so she

could call dorothy if she cone up today. I stoped looking after so long a time. Neva Forrest come over and her little boy same time phone man came. The little fellow was really trying out the lights. So many of them to turn on, never tryed out the mattress on big bed said it’s fine. She liked hard mattress. The butane man came, filled up tank don’t know just what time didn’t look at the clock. I fixed Tom left over bean bread milk, hamburger and pudding hadn’t been done eating long until said here they come. I said who? Tom said Aunt Dorothy. Sure enough saw trailer backing down drive way was about 5: p.m. They stopped and visited a while with Mrs. Haley and girls a while reason was late getting up. Brought boxes to fill up Dorothy

They got busy right away getting things so could put in boxes. Dorothy was so pleased that I had so many things already packed also surprised hadn’t used any of t.v. dinners. I said we use what needed to be used up first. Mr. McCurdy came over and brought clipping out of paper. I had called ask her also Mrs. Leblitz down below Dorothy but she said had to use her paper as she gets news for it and they pay her for what send in or take in.

Carolyn tried yesterday to get some papers in Jackson, but couldn’t, but said would see if somem of the neighbors had them she could send me.

Dorothy fixed her and Jay t.v. dinners, also had coffee and cookies. The place was a mess boxes nearly ever where so glad had what could

out of they worked on up to 11:30 p.m. packing. It’s all I could to find a place to walk so could get in bed in family room. Dorothy and Jay slept in big room as didn’t have same bedroom suit. Had one used to be in O’Dell room down at his Dad place. Think we all 4 was plenty tired when went to bed. Was 3 flash lights in kitchen but none any good, so was glad didn’t have to get up to go to bathroom and globe was burned out in front room night light. Jay cleaned out some ashes out of heater. Dorothy didn’t get around to clean frig. or stove, was so busy. Dorothy found out Tom new boy friend was Mrs. Morgan nephew and the boys had a lot in common. Also Mrs. Morgan know hardly any thing about her nephew John, he just come to live with her about 3 weeks ago, from where, Dorothy doesn’t know.

I forgot fix clock so ‘larm wouldn’t go off so it rang 6:a.m. I shut it off but didn’t go back to sleep. Turned on light and read Our Daily Bread Booklet and Bible had prayer, got up dressed, all but my outside dress. Didn’t bring it out of bedroom was _____ chilly so I got old sweater of Richard put it on until Jay and Dorothy got up. We all were real busy packing and loading up trailer, Jeb and Dorothy car. Jay helped sweep and clean straighten up house best he could. He was loaded and on his way by 2:p.m. Dorothy was waiting for Mrs. Neva Forrest to come over. Her father in law called last night. Wanted to know if she need any help. Was surprised when Dorothy answered phone instead of Neva as didn’t know no. had been changed. _____ Dorothy called neighbor give message.

Dorothy and Jay only had coffee and cookies until later in day. She fixed bacon and egg sandwiches. We didn’t leave any thing to eat with so I went out to car got _____ spoon but no knives. Some butcher knives then we all eat some Jello. Dorothy had some buns brought. Went fine with coffee. I had some rye bread, cheese, pickles, my coffee and some cabbage. Also Jello and cookies. Tom had corn chex, milk, later cookies, Jello also some peanut ball I made.

Mrs. Neva Forrest finally came over with her father in law. They looked around. Dorothy showed her what she left for her to use. Also Carolyn Weldin and her 4 children came up as Dorothy had something to give them. Tom helped carry them down.

Was 3p.m. when we finally left. Stopped at post office, also at Tom’s boy friend and got gas in Pioneer. Then ‘nother boy friend of Tom, Jerry, boy who came over stayed over night once with Tom. Next stop was Sutter Creek High School, so must have been 4:p.m. before we really was on our way. Stopped once got 3 big frostys, eat them first. I had for about 3 or 4 months. Tasted good. Hope don’t cough my head off now from eating this. Wasn’t 7:p.m. yet when got to Jay place. No one home. We take some things up in house then O’Dell and Jay came, they were down at GG as Floyd and Mason helped Jay unload. He tried get the trailer back before 6:p.m. They charged him $6.00more any way he said O’Dell eat at GG, so his Dad said think

Floyd wanted them to eat. Had a good dinner. Jay house sure full now. His basement is also full. Just how they are going to get straightened up I don’t know. We unload car, all but my things. Was about 8:p.m. when got over here at Helen, Jay and Dorothy. Only help bring thing up then said hello and good buy to Linda and Claude. Helen hadn’t been home long. She went some place with one of club groups today. Linda came over stayed with Karl. That reason Linda answered the phone when Dorothy called me. Saw GG out in garage with Floyd when we came past their place, but they didn’t see us. Dorothy said wonder if GG might want ride over with them to take me home, but guess she wouldn’t want leave Floyd. Was letter here for me from Nancy she sent some pictures but wants them back.

I come on up in my room. Karl and Thanu nephew brought up some of my things. I just stayed up, unpacked put away hung up dresses, coats, sweaters, put shoes away. Also food brought back with me didn’t use while was gone. Set my clock wound it, fixed my bed. Helen taken Linda and children home. Came back ask what Nancy had to say I let her read letter. Also look at the pictures. Karl was getting ready for bed. I told Helen her Aunt Myrtle got home 8:p.m. Sunday night. She didn’t stop, just keep on going. She wrote Dorothy her first letter in new name Mrs. Coker. O’Dell said she got a letter. She read it out loud to Jay and I. Myrtle wrote would stay with3 children at lady home. Been having little 2 year old one in her house but over weekend mother going some place. Well, I am tired out and sleepy.

I woke up early, guess its because ‘larm been going off 6:a.m. so Tom could get up and catch bus at 7:00 a.m., so I didn’t go back to sleep. Lay awake for a while, then read my Bible along with Our Daily Bread. Had my prayer, stayed in bed until Radio Bible Class came on 9: a.m. After it was over Richard DeHaan had same study as book I got from Christian Jew Hour. Antichrist, Armagedden and the end of the world which came to me while I was at Dorothy. I had sent for it, had read some in book last night then turned on my radio. This morning was surprised was about same study by Radio Bible Class. After was over, I got up made up my bed, checked in my ____ see what had left over from last month, put down check nos. counted small change so on, read some mail. One check raise and other one get less. Guess I am not allowed only so much a month. I wanted by sure understand the card and statement that came last time so I am ok with the old age p _________ which I am glad. Don’t want do anything wrong.

I did my ex ______ but didn’t bath or dress until after Claude left for Church Mass. He goes 12 noon on Sunday. I didn’t want disturb any of the family by running water and they like to sleep in Sunday and Thur. Claude day off. Karl didn’t wake up until 8:30 a.m. or I didn’t hear him before then. Think was even later. I had my radio on low, could get it for this program and only one heard all day. As went down stairs didn’t come back up until was 5:p.m. Got something to eat, cleaned up kitchen as best could. Helen had washed dishes but they were not dired and put away. Kitchen looked pretty good when I did come up. I lay down read some napped some was 8: p.m. went down again fixed some pea soup out of baby food and chicken broth. Had rye crackers with cream cheese, did up dishes again, watched t.v. from 9:p.m. to 10:p.m. Camme up got some Jello, made, it some soy beans to soak then back up in room again.

3/4/68 Helen went to one of her clubs meeting, think was about 9:20 a.m. I was ready to take over Karl as I set ‘larm. Thought would go off 7:30 a.m. but was earlier. I was afraid to go back to sleep, knowing was to look after Karl, but Helen said Joe would come pick him up 12 noon, or call let me know 11:30 or earlier. I had Karl lunch fixed , he eat then dressed. I helped him getting later all the time, so I came up changed my shoes, run comb through my hair, grabbed sweater, my handbag. Taken $5.00 as I could stop and shop on way back. Was 12:15 p.m. when Karl left the house. We sure walked fast. Karl said Grandma, my tummy hurts from walking so fast. I said mine doesn’t feel so good, either. We got down where Grand The_____ the lady who helps children across st. came walked with us. Karl didn’t want me to go up in the school room but I did anyway. He went through the hall. I told his teacher what happened.

reason Karl was late. She said only 5 mins. Which wasn’t bad at all, but I was just about wore out. Came little boy, said that Karl Grandma, they knew me as have played here with Karl. I taken it easier coming back. Lady helped me cross st. Also, I stoped in Dime and Dollar store, bought a grater, 2 birthday cards and ______ cup like Karl only it’s blue. Seen some dishes set for 4 people in window. Ask lady who has the store if she had any more one set inside, it’s green and white. I put $2.00 down on set. Pick it up some time this week. Also lady going try and order me 12 small albums. I taken on to show her bought this one same place long time ago. Hope she can get them. I hope she can get them. I stoped in health store, bought barley flour, then ‘nother groc. Store, bought bag of choc. Covered peanuts. Wanted eat with apple when get home.

I didn’t stop on way home at all. Keep right on walking.. Sure tired when I got in the house. Was about ½ hour before could lay down and prop my feet up, thou wasn’t long until Helen came home. Said her teacher was sick, reason she came home early. She had go back after Karl later. 3:p.m. ask me if I wanted go over to San Francisco see art show. I was so tired didn’t want do any thing but lay down and rest. She called Linda told a _____ Mike wife hand’t gone to the hospital yet. Mike said she was big enough to have 4 babys. Helen ask me if I was too tired to watch Karl as she could go over see this art show if she hurried. I went down tyed Karl shoes for hiim. He went down in the block to play with his friends but came back about 5:p.m. Said wasn’t any one for him to play with now, came in had some Jello, watched t.v. ‘Nother boy came so Karl taken 2 toy guns out and

they played a while right in front then got busy sweeping the sept off. Boy had to go home. Karl came in. Helen came home, had to really hurry get her dinner fixed. I came up in my room to rest. Been picking up things, putting away, ______ what could, hanging what could, hanging up some things. Helen said Oh, thanks, Mother for picking up. Won’t be so hard now can vac. Easily Wed. now I heard John Noble speaking in Family program tonight 7: p.m. the thing he told about treatment he got and other was so sicken to hear but time he went through this for 8 long years. Can get his book at Bible Book Store, so man said after John Nobel stop his speech. We had real thick fog for a while this morning but lifted, was nice and warm all after noon.

3/5/68 Didn’t get up early today as Helen was home. She did take Karl to Dr. before I got bathed and dressed. Was surprised when they came back so soon. I was just fixing to eat my breakfast. Karl wanted something to eat. Helen said wait until Grandma finished. I did stop and fix him some pears and toast which he eat. Then when I was through eating, Helen fixed Karl eggs and bacon. He didn’t eat all the bacon then.

I was going walk over to Safeway store and Guys Drug, put in some print to be made up. Also, buy some birthday cards. Soon was so late me taken Karl where lady takes children across st. on Grand Ave. Left Karl, came on went to Al’s gas station, payed repair bill on car. Sure got a nice lot of Blue Chip stamps. We came on back, stoped at Safeway. I cashed my checks, shoped $7.67 groc. Then we went in the _____. Helen wasn’t feeling very good as she had to set down in both stores. We came on to the house. I checked

my groc. also, money. Helen rested said we would go down after Karl about 2:45 p.m. I was going walk down but time just goes so fast. Road with Helen. She droped me off at Dime store. I picked up my dishes, put them in car, walked over to Lucky, shoped $2.90 groc. I hadn’t been outside waiting long until and Karl drove up. We came on home again, checked groc. and money, put things away. Also put my soy bean on to cook, made myself meat paty, cleaned some lettuce. Eat, had some of my coffee. Cleaned up mess again. Came up in my room, was 5:p.m., lay down, rested and read a while. Helen called said she couldn’t get Betty on the phone, had go over to her house as didn’t feel like going to school tonight so I watched Karl for Helen. Also, cleaned up ‘nother mess, came back up in my room until 9:30. Went down

3/6/68 I striped my bed this morning. That is, I made it up by taken ever thing off, so could straten up the blanket and sheets. My 4 photo albums came this morning. Karl brought them up. I was taken a bath. He said mail man mail main he likes to bring up my mail for me. After had my breakfast, came up, cleaned the toilet. Also floor, also bathroom. They sure needing it. When I can do them ever week, not hard. After Helen taken Karl to school I made Kammy a birthday cake. It box kind. Seem to have ____ feel in center, but it OK. Guess put pink icing on it after cleaned up lunch dishes, swept kitchen, mopped. Sure needed it badly. Then hung up all Helen’s and Karl’s laundry. Good thing didn’t have time to put them out on line as rained about 5:30 or 6:p.m. One of Karl boy friend came and played a while with him.

Was when opened the front door that I seen had been raining. Was just light rain thou not surprised as clouds was dark even yesterday when we were out and wind was chilly and windy this morning. Seems colder. Lawn looks so pretty and green thou I was icing the cake when phone rang, but didn’t want run and leave it phone so low couldn’t of heart it if hadn’t left door open. Found out was Dorothy she called later, talked to Helen then to me. Was going down to laundry mat dry her laundry said would see GG then Tom started to school Mon. seems to like the _____. Can’t get over the thousands of pretty light and seeing the bay from up at Jay place. Tom had already met some boy G _______________ one across st. Jay went with Dorothy to take Tom so could r ______

Later in day Nancy called. She was home sick and blue. Been having more heart break with her girl, she did thing shouldn’t so Benny say she should get out on her own and she not 16^th until 17 of this month. She been working, told her boss she was sick but went some place where was only 2 boy 2 girl alone. Mother and Dad not home at time any way. Nancy didn’t tell me this but told Helen. I talked to Benny, also Paul and Rickey. Nancy said to me she couldn’t fly out to see us so going call about ever 3 months even if taken her whole pay check each time. Ask what kind wedding dress Dorothy had. Was surprised and happy Myrtle got up and Dorothy moved now, seem so very happy.

Helen bought Kammy a ABC

set for her birthday. I raped it tonight we both got her a card. I have 6 prs. Sox for her.

Helen bought Karl some water colors and colored pencils of his own. Thinks he will let hers alone now. I put my soy bean away, can cook them more thou Helen fixed her veg. dish this evening. I also put it away for her and taken left over rice, made into custard with dat4es, never made rice pudding like this before.

3/7/68 Helen went over after Linda and her babys when she taken Karl to school. Was raining when they got back. While Helen was gone I cleaned up kitchen, brought up laundry, folded up, out in Helen’s bed room ____ things Karl in his room then hung up the sheets in basement. Fixed Kammy cake. Helen was bring more ice cream, when she came I was up in my room resting when they came. Guess the baby was asleep, heard some one walking very quietly in hallway then in Karl room. Some time later heard what sounded kind of strange. Finally dawned on me was the baby crying. Linda came up, got him. Helen had gone after Karl taken Kammy with her. When they came back had Linda come up see Kammy cake. Also showed clipping out of paper of Dorothy wedding. While Linda was u in my room Rose and Henry

with Miss Slater. I went down, held the baby for a while, fixed cake, used paper plates all set around table. Kammy wouldn’t blow out her candles, 2 of them, so Karl did. We dished up ice cream, cut cake. Every one seemed to like it. Was Jellow Raspberry flavor. Also put in icing, made it a pretty pink. I almost didn’t get any and wanted to ask first time had use Raspberry Jello. Also hadn’t ever used Jello in icing, but know shall again as turned out wonderful.

Sonny came but not in time to see Kammy look at her cake. Also hang on to her sox. She liked them better than her toy. Sonny had cake and ice cream. Also Helen went down to drug store, got roll of film and flash bulbs, taken some pictures.

Miss Slater had time trying get Rose Ann and Kerry come go home. Sonny road with them went some place. I don’t know just where, didn’t get back until Linda was gone. Helen taken her and baby home then was going to one of her clubs. It’s 10:30 p.m. she’s not home yet. I had Sonny try on jacket, also swet shirts and sweater also jeans which all fit him. He was so pleased over them, as need pants. Know Helen will be glad he could make use of the things.

Rose Ann and Harry seem to really enjoy them selves to day helping eat Kammy cake and having home fellowship around the table, even Miss Slater seem to have good time.

I hunted for Karl some p.j. found bottom down in basement. He had on summer pair but taken them off put on winter ones. I had kitchen cleaned up again before he went to bed 9:30 p.m. Wanted stay up until his mama came home but his dad said get in bed. He said his little prayer and huged me good night. Karl so happy Dorothy won’t be lonely any more. She married now, has Jay to keep her company. Karl thanks his Heavenly Father for this in his prayer to night.

3/8/68 Helen worked for Mrs. Hight today so I was up on the job by time she left for work. Joe came after Karl. He was all ready but putting on his jacket. I fixed him2 scrambled eggs, 2 small piece bacon, 2 pieces of toast, applesauce. Then he eat a banana so guess this last medicine Helen got has given Karl _____ which we are very pleased. I like to see a child eat his food when it’s fixed for him. After Karl left with Joe for school I made mayonnaise choc. cake, baked it in 3 foil pans. Helen had brought 2 up in my room, left one in cooler. Cake came out real good. I left the kitchen, stratened up but it never stay that way long. Helen was tired. She lay down, rested befor going down to Karl school. Ask me to fix Claude dinner. Celery, fish, fryed potatoes, gravy and coffee. When Claude came in, said where Helen. I said went with Karl down to

school. Claude said didn’t see her car so wondered where she was, shy she didn’t tell me was going some place. He didn’t seem mad, thou.

Helen and Karl come home 7:30 p.m. so Karl could take his medicine. I gave it to him 11:30 a.m. Claud was still sitting at the dinner table reading his paper or mail, don’t know which. Karl came in with some choc. cake. He eat it in kitchen. Helen said sure was lots of people at school to night. Some one called, ask her come and help out, so she did even if was tired. I was finished in the kitchen up in my by 8:30 p.m. which is early. Sure glad as I am kind tired tonight. Fixed my bed for the night, turned on the radio, Family Hour Program. Have some news to catch up on. Brought up some to read before burn them up. Card came from Ruby today. She looking Johnny this weekend. He’s been over helping his brother with his laundry mat.

3/9/68

Helen went to art class this morning so I was on the job after washed out my nighty and bed jacket. Fixed my breakfast. Also Karl as he hadn’t eat anything. Think Helen had go get gas. Taken Karl with her before she left to pick up Betty. I was in kitchen when phone rang. Karl answered, I heard him say hello, who is this, then he said was my brother from ________ Went in found out was Mike calling from G __________ wanted to let Helen know he was a father. Nancy his wife had baby girl 12:10 a.m. March 9/68, weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. Named it Eugena Burneise. Mike said they were married 9 months and 3 days which would make it June 6^th 1967 they got married. Mike was sorry Helen wasn’t home he seem so very happy over the baby thou. Mother and baby was fine. Nancy saw the birth of her baby Mike said.

He seem pleased to talk to me thou ask me come visit them some time as I seem to travel a lot in summer time. Was 9:45 a.m. when Mike called, that our time.

Michael came over to play with Karl right after Mike called but Karl wasn’t dressed so he had to get ready go out to play. Was 10: a.m. I told Karl be sure and come back ever once in a while so could give him his 11:30 a.m. medicine, but he didn’t, so I went down to Michael place, ask his baby sitter if Karl was down playing with Michael. She said they went up over the hill to play. She didn’t know wasn’t ok for Karl to go with Michael. If had, would have told Karl come home first and ask if he could go. She gave me the phone no. so could call next time.

Karl finally came home, said Michael baby sitter told him I was looking for him. Wasn’t long until Helen came in. I had fixed Karl some hamburger, peaches and cake for his lunch. He had finished eating by time Helen got home, thou I think was 1:30 p.m. I told her about Mike calling and what he said over the phone, so Helen called Linda, told her, then tryed to get Dorothy, but she gone shopping. Tom answered. Helen told him be sure tell Dorothy. Helen also call some other people. I don’t know just who, thou. We had good time day dreaming about going way down in G _______ and stopping in Texas and Louisiana. What a wonderful time we had on our trip in our minds. Helen, Karl and I at same time knowing Claude.

Would not hear to this at all. Who would get him up and off to work or fix his dinner, keep up his cloth.

I cleaned up kitchen after Karl and Helen and I eat. Didn’t go down again until 9:30 p.m. Did up dishes again, came back up in my room. Was 10:30 p.m. kind sleep so must go to bed.

3/10/68

I slep in this morning. Did hear Radio Bible Class. Had my Bible study and reading prayer made up my bed, did my ex _______ had a chance get in bathroom before Claude went in to shave, so was dressed before he went to Mass. Even had my breakfast which don’t happen on Sunday very often. Sonny came in time to fix his breakfast same time as I was. He went to church with his dad.

After I cleaned up the kitchen came up in my room, wrote Myrtle, let her know we came down to Dorothy new home March 2/68. Arrived 7: p.m., got over to Helen 8:30 p.m. Told her about Dorothy calling me March 6^th, also Nancy that night and Mike March 9^th telling about him being a father. Also ask Myrtle about Bobby, David Thomas’ little boy if he was out of the hospital and was he staying with her. Hope she let us know.

I made some more Jello today, mixed fruit kind, never made

any before tasted real good. I walked over hill in back, mailed Myrtle letter, came back, changed my shoes, went out, brought in Helen laundry, brought them up in my room. Ironed them ____ pieces all Karl but 2 night gowns of Helens, night shirt of Claude. I didn’t mind in the least, feel I am good for something around here. Went back down in kitchen 7:30 p.m. Did up dishes, had new jello and banana. Karl also had 2 dishes of Jello. He sure eating a lot better since Henen taken him to doctor last Tue. I was through in kitchen early tonight. Was watching t.v. 9:30 think, phone rang. I answered. Someone asked if this was Tom Dickson. I said no. They hung up. Ringing again, still want Tom Dickson. Helen came down asked does his mother want to talk to him so Helen gave operator Jay’s phone no. Hope Hazel got through okay and talked to Tom. I came back up in my room 10 p.m. so now going to bed. Been nice sunny day.

3/11/68 Helen went to her club and school so I had Karl he wasn’t feeling good, hardly eat any of his breakfast. Seemed to just want to go to the toilet and rock in his chair most of the time. I gave him some lunch but he didn’t only taste it. Had his medicine but it came up soon after. Was in kitchen all upset because went on draining board and floor. I told him not to worry about it, I could clean mess up which I did. I said Karl, you better lay down and not go to school. He wanted to go, so I taken my sandles down and left them to be fixed. Karl wanted to hold my hand. I watch him clear out of sight as he went up the school step on up in yard and went into room he is in. Then came on back to Lucky’s bought $1.97 groc. Came over to 10¢ and $1.00 store, asked about the photo albums, man hadn’t been in. Stopped at Health Store, bought

3/11/68 lb. fine corn meal and lb. soy beans. Came on to little park sit down just a few minutes. Came on home check and put away things bought then went over hill to Guy’s Drug Store, thought my pictures would be but they wasn’t, but left the Polaroid picture Nancy sent of her family. Hope can make one up for me. Man taken our phone no. so if anything came up could call me. I came back and lay down a while rested. Helen came home, Karl rang the door bell. I had go down see who it was as door wasn’t locked. Karl had run ahead of his mama door kind hard sometimes to open, so guess he thought was locked. Dorothy called today said Hazel was coming after Tom as Jay had to have operation and was too much on her having them both to see about.

I did get to call Wards about things as girl didn’t call back. Guess they have what I ordered. Hope so. Hazel called again tonight, told Helen Dick was coming on the bus after Tom. Wanted Helen go over to Greyhound Bus Station and pick Dick 7:25 a.m. so now Helen has to get up early and that means I do also. Can look after Karl in case he wakes up. Helen has to take Karl to the doctors so can’t take Dick over to Dorothy before she comes back. I went down 9:30 p.m. cleaned up kitchen, brought up laundry, folded to put away. Burned up paper that had piled up in kitchen. Was nice day. I didn’t go much, though, seem like didn’t but still was busy.

3/12/68

Got up real early as Helen had to go over Greyhound Bus Station pick up Dick. They were back long before I knew it as everyone was so quiet. I went down stairs. Karl, Dick and Helen was sitting in diningroom talking, having breakfast I guess. When I walked in Dick got up and greeted me. He glad to see me. I kissed him on his cheek. Helen had take Karl to doctor so Dick lay down in Sonny room on his bed. I put a blanket on bed so could cover up. He slept until just before Helen came back with Karl then Helen went, got gas. I gave her $4.00 in quarters. She brought back 45¢, so the gas was $3.55. We went out to GG place. She came out to car. Karl and I stayed at GG. Helen taken Dick up to Dorothy. Was 2:30 when Tom stopped at GG. He saw Helen car parked out in front. Reason he stopped though, his mother and Jerry was at GG.

Tom seemed surprised to find out his dad came down on bus after him. Said did he fly O, gee, don’t want go back on bus in this kind of weather. Helen taken him up to Dorothy then she came back down. Waited until time for them to come. Debby came in wet, so did Mason. Floyd was home got to visit with Dick. I am so glad isn’t any more hard feeling between them. They seem glad to see each other. Talked about farming and raising rabbits. I didn’t know Floyd had two rabbits. Dick went out to see them used Helen’s rain coat as rain was really coming down. GG and Debbie came. Made use of the sweaters, so I left them. Dorothy came down, showed us the pictures Sally and Howard taken at the wedding and that afternoon at Dorothy. I wanted 10 of them. Helen same, so I gave Dorothy $4.00 or wanted to but she gave me $1.00

but wouldn’t take the change. Said keep it Mother, buy stamps. Dorothy seemed happy looked good said her hubby just as sweet as was before. GG let me have her rain boots even put them on, fastened them up. She seemed so pleased I dropped in, so did Floyd and kids. Was raining, think was 5:25 p.m. when we left. GG stopped at Lucky, Helen got a green pepper and chocolate ice cream. Helen let us off in front. I came on up, opened door, turned on lights, Helen came down back way. Tom came up in Sonny room playing his guitar. Dick came up, so did Karl. I came in taken off my overshoes, coat, head gear, put on my sandles. I folded up towels, wash cloths, ate some chocolate candy and apple. Nice and warm inside the house.

Here it’s 10:35 p.m. back up in my room after going down having my dinner. Helen fixed cured lamb and squash like Claude has her to fix it. Had rice also. Then later chocolate ice cream. Even Dick seemed to like the dinner and ice cream. While they were eating I washed up. Everything was messed up fixing dinner, then did dinner dishes. Helen came up just now. She unzipped my dress as I can’t reach in back to do it myself. Helen really tired out. Tom sleeping in Sonny bed, Dick down on couch in front room. Helen said have to get some boxes and pack Tom’s things, take them over to Greyhound Bus Station, buy tickets, check suitcases then go over to Dorothy and ____ place as Chuck going come over but I am not going, neither is Karl. He was fussy and lonely [LEFT HAND MARGIN] when his mother wasn’t with him.

3/13/68

This morning I was up and on the job. Helen went over after things at Wards. Got blanket for Karl but the hose are for a tall person, so have exchanged them. Didn’t have the tea kettle. Dick and Tom was to pack the things they’re taking with them on bus but neither of them could get Helen’s car trunk open so when she got back from Wards she unlocked car trunk then helped Dick get things fixed. Even Tom’s sweater. Helen wrapped it in some cloth. She then put paper around it taped up also. Tied it with a string. Helen had to see about some papers for Harry teeth. Also taken tom and Dick to Greyhound Bus so could buy tickets and check suitcases then went on to Dorothy’s. Chuck and family was over. Helen said the baby sure has grown. It’s 6 months old now and Dick visited with GG today.

Letter came from Myrtle. She had been to doctor with her arm. Since she went home had abscess on it, not a large one, but really hurt and doctor cut it out. Leona went with her to doctor. David’s boy Bobby with him now doing pretty good. Ray and Ethel was over spending the day. Coming again help move things around in her bedroom. Myrtle wants go down see Charlie and Ruth this week as haven’t heard from them. Myrtle sent the re for her oatmeal cake. Made at Dorothy’s was so good, want make one myself some time. Helen wanted me make pork____ ball for dinner but we didn’t have eggs. Karl and I walked over hill bought some. We found shopping cart just on other side of Guy’s Drug Store so Karl got in it and I pushed him over

Also when we got in store saw one of men who worked there. Told him where we found cart. Brought it back. He thanked us. Karl was real good in Guys. Didn’t bother a thing or ask for me to buy him anything. Think he carried the ice cream cone home. I fixed him one after he was home a while. Had his _____. First time I had the meatballs already but the eggs so went ahead, finished them up. Set away until 6:15 p.m. Put on to cook green beans was cooking since 4:00 p.m. Claude got home early. I had to fix his meat. Put on had coffee ready to turn on burner, fixed potatoes and gravy. Then Helen came. She dished up Claude’s dinner. I fixed Dick’s, Tom’s and Helen’s. Dick came in the kitchen said you are a good cook. They all had ice cream and peaches after dinner.
